Stonham hosted Nowton for their first meeting of the season. Following a
spell of wet weather in the morning and a poor forecast the game was
reduced to forty overs each.
Stonham were put in to bat and started solidly, if a little slowly.
Following a break for rain Stephen Lewis (29) and John Hails (35) both
fell in quick succession leaving the innings at a pivotal stage.
However, Duncan Turner took the initiative with a crushing 42, and Ed
Player chipped in with a rapid 22. Stonham were all out in the final
over having scored a vulnerable total of 152.
Charlie Tunstall started the defence of the Stonham total in fine
fashion, clean bowling T Wentworth in the first over and causing
difficulties to the other Nowton batsmen. However, once H Desch had
become accustomed to the conditions he started to look very dangerous
and hit three sixes on the way to 34no. With the score at 59-1 the rains
came once again putting an end to a game which looked like Nowton's for
the taking.
