Earl Stonham welcomed the new season with a trip to Worlington. The pitch was a touch damp prior to the game, but it was still good enough for Worlington to choose to bat when they won the toss.

The early bowling was probing, with Tom Prior in particular profiting from the sticky wicket. Indeed, it was Prior who struck first and most often, causing four Worlington batsmen to offer catches to grateful Stonham fielders. Jeff Lewis trapped another batsman in the early stages of an impressively economical thirteen over spell, and Stephen Lewis joined in shortly after with a wicket of his own. With the innings stalling Worlington consolidated. They scored slowly but offered no chances to a field who looked sharp and made few mistakes. Eventually Worlington upped the run rate, taking a few more chances and giving Charlie Tunstall and Stephen Lewis more runs on their bowling figures than perhaps they deserved. M Bacon finished unbeated and reached yet another fifty against Stonham as Worlington finished on 159 for 6.

The reply to this getable target started slowly. Worlington used unorthodox attacking fields in the early stages to try and unsettle and stifle the batsmen. The bowling attack was consistent without being too threatening, but despite this wickets fell at regular intervals. Only Duncan Turner, playing in his first game for Stonham, made it past twenty. He batted solidly when required, and with flair when it was allowed, in amassing an impressive 68no including seven fours and two sixes. With plenty of overs to spare it was a race between wickets remaining and runs required. Eight wickets down, with partners running out, the winning runs were finally hit (by Turner himself) to end the match in a two wicket win for Earl Stonham.
