Message from the Chairman

Now that the dust is settling on another season we can look back with some pride on a successful year, but also with a tinge of frustration following the final weekend's matches.

The 1st XI did very well to reach the Federation Cup Final but on the day Exning were too strong, and we were not quite at our best and were comfortably second! Even so it was good to be involved in a Cup Final for the first time.

The 2nd XI had a similarly deflating final fixture losing by five wickets at Hadleigh on a very wet wicket - what we would have given for another thirty runs! Again, we should be delighted to have run them so close in that league. A good effort by the team over the whole season.

I would like to thank Simon Edgar and Duncan Turner, the two captains, for all their hard work throughout the season leading the teams with unfailing energy, enthusiasm and commitment throughout.

Thanks too to Tim Parker for supervising the end-of-season work on the wicket, to Iain Turner for making the arrangements, to Polly for the bacon sandwiches and hot drinks and to those members able to help on the day.

We look forward to the final act of the season with the Annual Dinner/Dance and Presentation Evening at The Cedars Hotel, Stowmarket on October 11th. There are still tickets available at £23 per person if you'd like to join us for what is usually a very enjoyable evening.

My thanks go to all the club's sponsors, vice-presidents, officers and members who have contributed this season.

Trevor Spall, Hon. Chairman. September '08
